DIY: M6955-Happy Mothers Day

 HAPPY MOTHERS DAY
I decided to wear McCalls 6955 for mothers day. It is springy and made for a nice dress to wear.

My best friend made me some jewelry for my birthday. So fun to be able to pair it with this dress.

LINING BELOW:

Altered bodice pattern below.
This is what I removed below

I had a little bubble right above the darts so I brought them up some.

I used bias binding and a rolled hem instead of serging. I must say I like the results better. I like this pattern and will make it again . I was actually surprised by this dress because
1.) I am not a fan of floral prints :/. Which one cannot tell by the amount of floral prints that I have been making lately.2.)I was not a fan of the neckline on the photo drawing. Turns out it is pretty flattering.I am not one that like to make a ton of alterations on a pattern. So now that this is done I will remake it.

Birthday Outfit

For my birthday I decided to wear Butterick 5650 blog post about it makings Here
I had an excellent birthday. I  got a ton of compliments, woke up to beautiful flowers, ate good food at the cheesecake factory and enjoyed good company!

Pockets! Pockets! Pockets!

I got some faux flowers from pat catans and made the flower hair piece.

My father is an artist and I was in his studio snapping photos . If I had a comparable sewing studio I would never leave,

Beautiful birthday flowers from the man in my life.

At the cheesecake factory, Red Velvet-Chocolate ?.These pieces were yummy.

Novembre Magam Challenge McCalls 5989

In honor of MAGAM I decided to make McCalls 5989.

I used a seam press open serge. I normally would serge the seams pressed to one side, but I like the look of the open.

And then the problems came in.I accidentally serged my pant fabric with the seam creating 2 holes. I am still deciding if I am going to keep the pajama pants or not. You win some you lose some. I am happy that I did not make this in the original fabric that I was going to make it in. African print I would have been heartbroken to have to throw it away.

October Magam Challenge Vogue 8870

In honor of Magam's October challenge  I decided to make Vogue's 8870.
V8870, Misses' Dress

The dress was not hard to make a sewed up rather easily. I did not take time to read the directions so I don't know how well they were written. Is this a beginner friendly dress, I would say yes depending on the fabric you are using.I added a half inch to the bust pattern pieces. Then had to take it in at the waist to fit around the skirt. No other alterations were needed.

Even though it's a cool dress. I would not make this again, the elasticized waist makes me look super top heavy and without a waist belt, I don't think this design would have been flattering. I will be staying away from the elasticized waist I had similar thoughts about McCalls 6744.

Fabric used:Georgette from fabric.com-Frays a tad
Lining fabric from fabric.com
I though the color of the fabric was gorgeous but was uncertain- the whole thing could have looked a bit night-gownish it turned out rather nice.
Blues..Yellows and Browns you cannot go wrong.

MAGAM'S September Challenge B5650

Back
In honor of Magam's September Challenge I have finished Buttericks 5650. I lengthened the skirt,  and used an invisible zipper in the back-although I prefer them in the sides. I added elastic to give the waist band a bit more weight/structure.I also ordered the fabric which is  a Chiffon from fabric.com and the lining which is polyestor based. The fabric ravels very easy and snags :(.  This skirt was super easy to make even using a slippery fabric like chiffon-which I had to have because I knew the skirt would flow when I walked.I definitely want to add about 1 more to my wardrobe.
